We don't do average.

What we're about

Our intense hockey training program is designed for dedicated athletes who strive to elevate their game and leave an indelible mark. With a focus on skill development, conditioning, and mental toughness, we are committed to sculpting the next generation of elite hockey players.

When push comes to shove, our guys shove back twice as hard.

Steve Adams

Founder and Owner

For over 20 years, Steve has tirelessly provided off-ice and on-ice development for players of all skill levels playing all streams of hockey. He is a long-time scout at the NCAA, WHL, and Junior levels. A seasoned fan of Colin Cowherd, Steve has designated himself as “Alberta’s own honesty broker”.

Steve pushes players to excel and expand their skills to compete at the next level; he empowers each of his players to be an offensive threat through fast tempo and creativity. He believes in a puck possession and aggressive defensive structure to allow players to get used to playing fast. He strives to create leaders on and off the ice by improving their communication, strategy, presence, and skill. He values connections and makes introductions between players and those who can help them get to that next level. Preparing his players for the next stage of their lives or hockey careers is an integral tenet of his leadership.

For those willing to outwork the rest, there is almost nothing Steve will not do.

Steve’s resume includes:

  • Played junior A in the BCHL OJHL and AJHL as well as playing five years of professional hockey.
  • Multiple years as contracted team development provider for several minor hockey associations.
  • Invited speaker and subject-matter expert focussing on NCAA-level opportunities for male and female players.
  • Over 14 years of developing and delivering one-on-one personal training for athletes.
  • Three years as Assistant coach and Head Scout for the Bonnyville Pontiacs in the AJHL.
  • Over 15 years as volunteer coach at the AAA, AA, and tiered levels.
  • Eight years experience as a Family Advisor helping guide players seeking hockey-related opportunities which includes scholarship acquisition at the NCAA level.

In addition to his coaching certifications, Steve believes strongly that effectively developing athletes can only be achieved by continually expanding his own professional development through:

  • Membership in NHL Coaches Association. This includes attending the 2019 NHL Coaches Conference.
  • Membership in IHS – Ice Hockey Systems,
  • Collaborating and engaging on skills development and current trends with a vast network of professional, collegiate, WHL, Junior, and skills coaches.
  • Collaborating and engaging on youth and leadership development with a vast network of professionals outside the hockey community including psychologists, educators, business professionals, and community leaders.
  • Expanding knowledge sources to include:
    • Training directives and initiatives used in other sports for skill development, strength building, and conditioning.
    • Training directives and initiatives used in other countries known for developing top-level hockey players.

And, while it sometimes comes as a surprise to those who meet him, Steve has an indescribably clever, patient, thoughtful, and supportive wife without whom, along with his quick-witted kids, none of this would be possible. For them, he is eternally grateful.

Ian Bablitz

Head Instructor

Meet our head instructor of more than 10 years, Ian Bablitz. An Inside Edge alumnus, Ian retired from junior hockey in 2015. In 2016, while attending university, Ian joined the U of A Pandas as an assistant coach, a role he’s held since – including their 2016/2017 national championship season. In his daily life, Ian spends his days as a teacher with Edmonton Public Schools.

Also, we have yet to see anyone who can do the crossover dot drill better. Babs is the master.

Adam Jereniuk

Lead Instructor

After Junior hockey, Adam stayed with the game he loves by graduating from Brock University majoring in Sport Management. Converting from Inside Edge player to instructor, Adam spends his summers as a leader at our on-ice camps and as a certified personal trainer who developed and delivered individual training programs as part of our players’ off-ice athletic development.

As our “Left Foot, Right Foot” specialist, General’s the instructor our players love to hate.

Xavier Halterman

Lead Instructor

One of the most dedicated people to come through our program, Player/Instructor Xavier Halterman has been teaching Inside Edge clients on and off the ice since 2016. His successful AAA and Jr hockey careers landed him a scholarship at Portage College in the ACAC where he plays today. When not in school, Xavier makes a tidy sum wearing the stripes as a skilled Hockey Alberta referee.

Be sure to ask Halts to demonstrate his edges – it’s legendary.
